Tanrie

Type Design

Tanrie is a type family that revisits 20th-century American book jackets to explore how distinctive lettering traits can be distilled throughout a typeface.

It draws inspiration from the idiosyncratic qualities found in the works of W.A. Dwiggins, George Salter, and Philip Grushkin. The family currently includes four styles: Headline, Headline Italic, Text Regular, and Text Bold. This project was developed during the Letterform Archive’s Type West program.

Project awarded Type Director’s Club Certificate of Typographic Excellence.

Special thanks to Graham Bradley, James Edmondson, Lynn Yun, Kel Troughton, and my fellow cohort.
